Site Changes
Lachlan87I just saw the changes you guys made to BHGL, etc. Looks good! Gives the site a fresh look, without losing the "VBgamer" feel.
VBBRIs there another modification yet? (...) Oh yeah, just the BHGL and the "Coded with VB" pages. Well, I think... it looks a little weird. The animated logo is great, and could be on every page, but the tables design looked real weird in my 1280x960 display. Everything was squeeked (if it is spelled this way) in a (four) tiny square(s) at the top of the page. I think it looked a little newbish if I'm risking to say.
Eric ColemanI've been migrating various pages to the new layout over the past couple of days. I have some content and stuff that I plan on adding, and I'll just release the new layout and extras all at once. The NewsTicker page is also updated with some examples of what you can do to configure it to get different themes.

What do you mean by that? "newbish" could many any number of different things.
VBBRWell, it may be my "not-native-speaker" ability again, but... What I wanted to say is, it *seems* it is a small site, with poor content or something similar. I know altought that this is not the case, but that layout (in my opinion) makes it seems like that. Not being offensive or something, just what it looked to me. (and maybe would look for someone else; I personally dislike layouts that have navigation links at the top, I like more the "lateral" ones, like VBGamer 1.0) I don't know, maybe making the (top) tables percents instead of pixel-sized? And also making everything else 100% width instead of *x* pixels? It just looks weird to me in a 1280 width display [:D] Maybe I'm just missing the side panels...?
Eric ColemanThe site is designed for a 1024 x ??? screen width. Having the website variable width isn't easy because of inconsistencies between different versions of IE, so I opted for a fixed size. Another reason, in my opinion, is that a flexible width makes things harder to read, especially for long lines of text that stretch all the way accross the screen.
VBBRNow I got it! The reason why it seems weird here. The page is all aligned at the left, so with a HUGE blank (black) space to the right. Couldn't you make the ENTIRE thing centered? Since not a lot of people use resolutions greater than 1024x??? Anyway, I think it will look a little better.
sdwThe spinning dotted yellow cirle around the game controller logo thing is cool, but the moving blocks are a bit much. Maybe make them glow instead of move, I dunno. Have you considered making the layout customizable to the user's preference? Althought that may take too much work.
Almar Jolingfor my new YALG site I have managed, with an extremely simple CSS to center my site at all resolutions (and it's compatible with IE/Mozilla/FireFox), if you're interested I can give it :)
Eric ColemanIf no one likes the new layout, then it is your own fault. I asked and no one came up with any ideas, so everyone needs to stop complaining about how the website looks. This website does not need to be pretty, it needs to be functional. http://www.vbgamer.com/msgboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=177
masterboodaIf my opinion matters, I like it... it is simple yet functional and looks good too.. and really that is all this site really needs to be. I like the animated logo... and I like the way the tables are set up. Short and sweet it is professional and functional. DaBooda out...
VBBROK then, I think I just started to like it a bit... sorrry I guess I was a little rush, misjudging before taking a better look... I'm really sorry about that. And I agree about the need to be functional.
ballistikI like the way the site looks, especially the new animated logo.
Sr. GuapoIs it just me, or are all the forum fonts REALLY small... It was almost impossible to read the little box on the home page (with all the recent posts)... Don't know if this is by design or what, but at 1024x768, it is pretty annoying. Also, it makes some of the font seem very blurry...
Sr. GuapoWow this is really embarassing... It seems my "font size" setting in IE was randomly changed to "smallest, and I can't get it to go back. I can set it to "medium" and it works fine, but then reverts whenever I visit another page... Annoying... PS - I won't delete my previous post. Everyone can have a good laugh at my retardedness...
Eric ColemanIf anyone notices any wierd rendering problems, then uploading a screenshot would be helpfull [:)]
VBBRHere's mine then. (the problem is the left column width; the grayed part I painted to preserve my information [:D]) Download Attachment: screen.JPG

Eric Colemanthat's odd. I think it might be a firefox proble, although I use firefox and I've never experienced that with vbgamer. I have seen that happen a lot with Lucky's website, especially the forum. Hopefully the new design isn't causing any problems.
timbo152kI love the new layout, good colors to use too.. Cant wait to see it applied to the rest of the site! =) - Timothy Patrick
VBBRHey can't you make the whole thing centered? I tested here and it worked just by adding a <center> tag right after the <body> tag and a </center> right before the </body>. It looked a lot better in my opinion.
sdwI might be a little late on this, but oh well

The new layout you showed had the same functionality as the previous, the only changes were colors and logos. Unless I missed something, isn't a facelift suppose to make something look pretty?

IMHO the site looks great the way it is. And not everyone is going to agree on the same layout. I could care less what the layout looks like when you're done, just as long as the site delivers me some VB news and doesn't take very long to load. :)

Actually it's quite a bit different. Website navigation is at the top of the webpage instead of spread out into different locations. When VBGamer first started the only things that were availabl were the 5 sections at the top, which some people don't even notice because they're a bit "hidden." I've expanded the website gradually and added the different sections in the column on the right side of the page (forum, links, tutorials, articles, files). Space is getting tight when adding new features, so I've totatly redesigned the site, especially the main page. Hopefully I can get people interested in submitting some game related content.
VBBRI see the layout is centered now, thanks a lot!
