Emoticon Released - Rag on a Stick (4 replies, 2055 views) (2003-Apr-8)

Emoticon, a real time strategy game by Andy Owen has just been released. The website has also been significantly updated since the game has changed so much since the public alpha. The game is freeware, and I encourage you to try it out and tell your friends.

I love this game, at first i had a bunch of ideas to improve it.. then was impressed by how simple it was and its the way it should stay, i know you said the games complete but an online version of this to play with your friends would be remembered a lifetime

Friendly's right . . . this could be a fantastic game . . . since it's freeware you should make it open source so everyone can get involved, since you're finished with it. By the way, I think the minimap should be taller.

Hey, I'm glad you like it. Unfortunately (well, unfortunately for you at least), it won't be able to go Open source as some of the code I use in it is stuff which I also use in commercial products. The second unfortunate is about multiplayer - I'm just one guy with one computer, because of this, it is incredibly hard to do anything to do with connecting multiple computers together. I'm getting a new laptop soon, which will mean that multiplayer games will be possible, but for now, I'm not prepared to go crazy working on something I can't test :) Also a note to people with GeForce cards - if the game runs slowly (like 1-5fps slowly), then I *think* it may be a driver issue. I haven't had the problem (and I have a GeForce2MX400), but I think some drivers released sometime between the Alpha and this made DirectDraw go crappy. I downloaded the latest drivers from NVidia today, and the game still works fine for me, so if you have problems, then try that and tell me how it goes.
