Here is an article on CNN about a blind kid that plays regular video games.
I think it's amazing that he can do that. Of course, I've always been a Street Fighter II fan, and never really liked Mortal Kombat. |

Actually there is a big market for games that cater to blind players. I think they mostly consist of speech, audio, etc. Adventures, puzzle solving, etc. Cool stuff!

Indeed, quite remarkable. There's probably quite a deaf/blind game market out there waiting... |

A good mate of mine has been blind since birth and can play lots of games. He's very good at the Mortal Kombat and Quake games. We had a LAN party once with 12 people and he he came 4th or 5th, just by listening to footsteps and gunfire... very cool! There's definitily a market out there for blind gamers, especially with the advancements in audio technology. |

Does anyone have any ideas for games that would fit into this category? A few months ago I added a link to http://www.bscgames.com/ in the links section.
I think it might be fun (and difficult) to try to create a game for visually impaired or blind gamers. Force feedback controllers would be an important game element I think.
What are everyone's ideas and thoughts about how to create games like this? How do we make them fun for everyone to play? |

I've never played one of these games so I'm just going on gut instinct, but I would think one route might be something like a text adventure with real world sound effects in 3D, a deep rich storyline, etc. Almost like an interactive audio book. A mystery, whodunnit, combined with action elements utilizing force feedback, etc. hmmm.... |
