Summer 2006 Edition?

What has everyone been working on? I am in a "let's test people's new demos out" kind of mood right now! Recently (this past week) I started working on my new website which will help boost support into the VB community as well as keep boosting the C# community. I am planning to launch it on November 1rst, and if I can finish the backend by September that leaves me two whole months to create content.

I also have been contemplating ideas for version two of my engine (Dx5D, Downloads) which was written in C# for an independent study. I wish I could do a VB.net version but just don't have the time to even port it. If someone else wants to take up the task feel free... The engine is 2D and has physics, tiling, collisions, etc. The new version I am planning is going to be about twice as big... should be a fun endeavor.

Other than those two projects I am just working, trying to make money to at least keep up with gas prices and relaxing, taking lots of pictures. What have you been up to?

ungh! Stop reminding me! Geeze time sure flies. Well I have been working away at my xGSuite collection of projects and just yesterday got my xGSuite project hosted at http://www.codeplex.com/Wiki/View.aspx?ProjectName=xGSuite You can download release 1 under the releases tab. Or you can download a up to date release from the "SourceCode" tab. Most of the projects should compile and run as is. For a list of projects contained in the xGSuite (about 55 in all) visit http://www.codeplex.com/Wiki/View.aspx?ProjectName=xGSuite&title=Documentation

BTW: If you want THE ABSOLUTE EASYIST way to do source control, and team based project management. CodePlex is the way to go. Way, easier to setup and get running then sourceforge. Seriously, sourceforge is going to get a run for there money.

Other then that I have not been doing too much. Crazy thing happened to me the other day, I rode my bike out to the lake (about 50 minute ride one way) and there were litterally like 12 people there! Usually the place is packed this time of the year. And to top it off, they all left after I got there. I had the beach all to my self! Sadly I decided not to stay, out of safety concerns.

I also got a new HD camcorder. A sony HDR-HC3, I have been taking 4Mp stills like crazy. It's my first camcorder so just about anything is a potential point and shoot target. Hmmm, I might regret posting this but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6KdRz7VH8I Sadly the youtube video was infact the first thing I did shortly after opening the box. For shame, For Shame. I have been taking all kinds of stills that I think could be used in games. A lot of generic tiling textures like grass, walls, wood, siding, carpet, floor tiles etc.

I will also bo heading back up to the mushroom camp in another 1 to 2 weeks, which means no internet or electricity for that matter! For 2-3 months! Here is a video of my camp from last year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLIijAcHRBA (sorry for the bad video I was using a cheap web cam) and here is a video I took a few weeks ago when I went up to the camp just to check things out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0jQEH8dW2E If you are interested or just curious you can get more info about pine mushrooms (Matsutake mycelia) at this web site http://www.matsiman.com/

I will be taking my new hd camera this year and shooting some video of all the different editible wild forest foods as well as some nature shots as they present themselves.

So if you don't here from me by ohh say november, um, i'm probably bear bait. I have already had a close encounter this year so I'm hoping there won't be any more encounters,...

My western game :). But because of a 40h (programming) work week, I tend to get unmotivated a bit at the evenings.. :)

vbGORE... yup, just that. http://spodi.zidev.com It has become pretty decent, and with the next version I am close to releasing, I think I'll be able to smash the rest of the public VB ORPG engines as far as networking, graphics and sound goes. >:) Not quite there on the ease-of-use, but getting close... of corse, with the complexity of the engine, kinda hard to make it as easy to use as the rest of them. It has been a fun project, too, since it taught me a hell of a lot about networking and how truely large an online game can become - god there is a lot of code in that thing! :o

Once I get vbGORE to a satisfactory state (stable, all the features I want in the engine, nice and optimized, etc) I hope to create my own online game with it. If not, maybe try and create a program/game that'll make a little bit of bling-bling (enough for a fatty aluminum $$ necklace).

Now that DaBooda Turbo is officially dead, I have found time to work on a new project. My very own unique programming language(DBMAM) that I will use to create several video game console type machines(Emulated of course) with.
So far I have the language, compiler, and even the first machine done. Now its simply just a matter of getting
everything debugged, which I hate with a passion.
Unfortunately the only VB related aspect about the new project is the Compiler, which to be honest was tricky, but I got it to work(WHY WHY CANT VB HAVE UNSIGNED LONG SUPPORT!!). For the language of course is unique and the first machine was done in FreeBasic, so I will most likely be posting in that Forum.
This has kept me pretty busy, for any spare minute I get, I am banging away at this project. The sad thing is, noone has any interest besides me, oh well.

Peace, Dabooda out...

You sir (booda), are nuts. lol I would definately like to see the finished product...!

As for Almar... I know how you feel... I just keep forcing myself to work on my CMS a little everynight, even if it is just adding a line of code and calling it quits.

After talking briefly with my father and his projects (He is working on some VB.net 2k5 stuff, like a special debugging tool that logs automatically and lots of other stuff, etc) I am gaining more interest in XML and how you use it. I just got done reading 1000 pages worth of PHP and MySQL stuff... and still I am nowheres near being good/great at it. heh. I think after my dad is done reading the XML book he got I am going to dig in and bang it out in a week so I can add more support for XML documents in Dx5D 2. My CMS is coming along pretty well... If you want to see (but not touch! ;)) it go here: http://jsedlak.org/index.php?pass=jsedlak

I am currently working on the downloads section and then after that I need to create another theme and finally work on the admin GUI (C#) and add content.

Keep up the good work fellas!

Just thought I would add a little update. I now have a dynamically loaded GUI (dGUI) running with automatic formatting, can connect to the database, run queries and whatnot.

Here is a little video I made: http://jsedlak.org/downloads/icms_090606.wmv
