Hello all,

Does anyone see any disadvantages in putting all the media assets (graphics, sound files, etc) into a RES file and compiling it into the vb project? It would prevent a user tampering with the assets (important for multiplayer games), but I'd have to think there would be some disadvantages as well...

Thanks,

- Corey

Sadly, this site is dead.

But to answer your question, using a RES file will not protect your game assets. There are "resource explorers" that can extract all of that information easily.

An easy option is to use password protected zip files. You can obtain the source for zlib at http://www.zlib.net/ There is code in the distribution that supports simple zip files with the option of password protecting the files.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your reply.

And, yes, too bad this site has died. Moreover, I'm not really sure why... Maybe everyone has migrated to C#?

Some of us have gone to freebasic, others powerbasic.. yet some of us stop by once in a while..(it's all about da r00tz) ;)
Although I am kinda surprised that the site isn't jumping, as VB .Net/XNA seems to be as big of a crowd as the VB/DX crowd back in the day.. <shrugs>
