DreamQuest Download - Vampire (33 replies, 2320 views) (2004-Mar-4)
-
A very early version of Dreamquest is available for download. Finally. Many things will be added, but the general idea is already done. I plan to add more RPG elements to the game, like Mana, Experience, Weapon and Armor classes, a.s.o. If anyone managed to exit the first cave (not with the escape button), let me know, to congratulate you. Of course, I welcome any comment. The site is refreshed too, reorganized wth lots of new things in it (interviews with the characters from DreamQuest, a checklist, free 3d models: medieval weapons and more). I don't know, what happened, try entering directly the site: www.dreamquest.go.ro The download works for me, but if you want DreamQuest and still don't have the chance to download it, I can send you by e-mail... Did anyone succeed the download? Thanks for interest

I don't know if this answer was also meant for me, but if it was, let me clarify: I downloaded the game (the links work for me), but when I run it, I just get a grey screen (no error message). All that the program seems to do is create the 'Level' folder.

I entered the address directly, as you said, and it doesn't work. What country is this domain at? Sometimes it's that the server does not supports connections from certain countries... (I'm in South America)

I get a grey screen also... I think mabe a message box is appearing underneath it, because when I hit the return key the grey screen goes away.

Space or Esc work as well, so I don't know... I hope Vampire can find out what the problem is.

The game is generating an Error 53: File Not Found. Does there need to be a certain directory structure in order for this to work?

How in the world do you get out of the starting room? lol, very confusing, very puzzling

sdw, how did you get it to run? Did you put it in a particular directory?

I downloaded DreamQuest from the website like everyone else, and I too got the same error. Luckily I know what the error is. Vampire, you forgot to pack the Data directory, with all the graphics and sounds, etc with the downloadable zip. Unless you made some changes, I'm sure this is the problem.

I fixed DreamQuest, now it should work... It was set for level editing and I forgot to set it back for play... Sorry... VBBR: My host is from Romania (a country still in medieval ages). But I could e-mail you the game...

I want to see the site also... I got a snapshot from the site with google, but just the home page, wich makes me even more interested. You could put the site in another address (or as an alternative). Try FreeWebs (www.freewebs.com), it doesn't use popups or banners, just require that you put a small notice at the bottom of the page. It's also very quick and easy to sign up.

I also only got into the old village. Perhaps that's just as far as you can get in this version?

yeah, farthest I got was into the old village and talked to the dude in the building. Little punk didn't help me much though.

VBBR: Thanx for the idea to put my site on freewebs. I shall do it even today, so tomorrow you will be able to see it. Spodi, Walrus, VBStrider: Yeah, this is sad but true. DreamQuest is not complete yet (not at all). I am working on the New D'Warvar, so it is unavailable. Sorry, but the save will not be compatible with the new saves. And a converter is pretty hard to make... Thank you for this interest for DreamQuest. And I welcome any help making it.

Oh yeah, Vamp, just two quick suggestion. If you move your mouse cursor down far enough, the picture of your inventory item will vanish. I am guessing it has to do with a routine you put in to not draw objects fully in the screen. Maybe if you can put a little fixer on that, it'd be cool. :) Also, when you left/right click on, lets say the crack on the wall, I think it would be better if the text changed once you moved your cursor over a different object, like a rock or the wall or faerie. That way you dont have to wait for the description text to go away. Other than that, it's really sweet, love the collision detect you have on the mouse VS game objects, nice and pixel perfect. It's a beaute.

Yes, Spodi, I observed that little "bug" with the cursor. I thought I'll fix it later. The procedure you mentioned is applied for the item in the game...

VBBR: I tried FreeWebs, but it allows me to post max 60 files. DreamQuest has already 67... and it's growing... If you have an other suggestion for free hosting... Spodi: Yes, I had a thought about the info texts too. I'll fix it as you suggested.

Vampire, Downloaded and played with the game, A real neat interface you've got that works well. I like the quick inventory bar although I was slightly confused about the difference between a left and right click to interact with objects and people. One observation I did make was the contradictory nature of the fairy who wants you to help her farther but doesn't want to help you until you give her a monestone. Another odd dialogue momment was when I was speaking to the dwarf I was able to ask him questions about people I hadn't yet met or knew about. Apart from that it looks like a very good start...

Really good, altough I can't seem to pass the spider web room. Defeated the spider and got the spiderbreath but the passage is still blocked... (and it's too yucky to remove the web) Oh and will you put on the site the engine used and the tools for it?

Re: DreamQuest Download -  Spodi (0 replies) (2004-Mar-10)
Vamp uses his own engine he posted on here a while ago. Check the archives. :) And for the web part, if you really must know, read this backwards: "Bew eht ta skcor worht" Make it a little harder to accedently read it.

Re: DreamQuest Download -  Vampire (0 replies) (2004-Mar-11)
The new engine is slightly different of the engine posted erlier (Universal Hunter). The DremQuest's engine is more rigid (yet), there are special features for DreamQuest. But the core is the same. About the tools: I shall upload them as soon as I will be able to write some help for them. I will consider every comment (on DreamQuest) as a future problem waiting for fix. So let them coming on!

Got it, thanks Spodi. I didn't figure out it before 'cause I didn't have any stones left (sometimes it's hard to see) but i found some now. Unfortunately this version ends here...

I have found the Universal Hunter engine in the archives, but I can't access it also because its domain is .go.ro... Could you put it elsewhere?
